Isn't desertion treachery?
These are the words penned by the man who would become a leader of the White Rose Society, a student-led resistance movement under the Third Reich. These words have long seared their letters into my mind and soul.
"Isn't seclusion a form of treachery- of desertion?" In a world where evil permeated daily life and the Reich had taken the place of an idol, there were those who sang song more lovely than those of the birds in mountain trees. They sang for justice. They died for justice. They understood that seclusion could never change the world. Hans Scholl was excecuted for treacherous activities on 22 February 1943.
